First Lady Jill Biden visited Bergen Community College to highlight a new round of $198 million in federal aid for colleges and universities across the country during the coronavirus pandemic.
But Jill Biden said Americans were “right to put your faith in my husband Joe one year ago.”
The new round of funding for colleges is part of the American Rescue Plan, the coronavirus stimulus package her the president signed last year. Officials said the money will go to schools with the greatest need, including community colleges and other schools in rural areas. “They have to choose between taking extra shifts at work and pursue the degree that will help them make more money,” said Jill Biden, who has spent two decades as a community college professor and still teaches English at Northern Virginia Community College.Biden noted how Bergen Community College is a model for how schools can help students, having set up a child care program, counseling services, and canceling some student debt.
