'I could hear screaming': Air ambulance lands and police swarm main road after woman hit by car outside college
Horrified eyewitnesses heard 'screaming' after a woman was hit by a car on a busy main road in Openshaw on Tuesday afternoon .
The road remained closed for a number of hours on Tuesday amid investigations as the woman, approximately aged in her 20s, was treated at the roadside next to a bus stop before being rushed to hospital from the scene with a serious head injury.Witnesses reported hearing 'screaming' as a heavy police presence descended on the busy main road. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12.40pm.
“Then about five or 10 minutes after that a small ambulance came, then the helicopter came. It landed on a car park off Ashton Old Road. A resident who lives nearby to the scene said: “I was at a hospital appointment and came back about 2pm and there was police everywhere and the road was closed. There were at least three or four police cars and vans as well.
