📣'Don’t waste water, says a private company that has been losing 28 gallons per household during the last couple of years. Multiply that by five million customers and you can see how little difference a few hosepipes are going to make.'
But the edict that from next Friday we will once again have to reel in our hosepipes strikes an altogether more sour note – coming as it does from, a company that leaks more than Whitehall yet which splashes out a reported £1.4m on its boss’s salary.
On top of that, water companies across the country have been breaching their permits by releasing raw sewage into rivers more than 1,000 times a day, even when there’s been no heavy rain. A generation on, restrictions on water companies have been tightened, but not enough. This week, the head of Ofwat, which is supposed to regulate these firms, sounded like their PR man when he insisted they were not being given enough credit for their actions to reduce leaks, and suggested the issues were too complicated for their critics to understand. What a drip.

Usyk vs. Joshua 2 round by round updatesOleksandr Usyk will defend his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight belts against former champion Anthony Joshua on Saturday at the Jeddah Superdome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The bout is a rematch of a Sept. 2021 fight that saw Usyk control the rounds from the opening bell en route to a unanimous decision on the scorecards (117-112, 116-112, 115-113). It was just the second defeat for the Brit in 26 professional fights to that point. Will Joshua find redemption in the Middle East similar to his rematch win over Anthony Ruiz Jr.? Or will the Ukrainian once again assert his dominance and keep his unblemished record?Heavyweight title contender Otto Wallin says he's picking Usyk on Saturday night.“It's hard to go against Usyk just because of what he did in the first fight,” Wallin told The Athletic. “It wasn't like it was a complete shutout, but Usyk was of course the better guy. Joshua looked like he was just fighting to survive and he didn't really go for it. It looked like a training session. That has a lot to do with confidence and it seemed like Joshua didn't want to get hit and risk being knocked out. Unfortunately that's a part of boxing and heavyweight boxing.“You always want to have good defense, that's very important, but at the same time you can't just go in there and expect to take no punches. You got to be ready for that and have an answer for it. You can't fight not to lose. You got to fight to win and I think that's a really big difference. When you fight not to lose, you're defensive, don't want to get hit and not really taking any risks. With a guy like Uysk, you need to take risks and be aggressive to take him out of his game plan. If you don't, he's just going to be brilliant and do his thing.”The Athletic will have full coverage of the mega-fight. Here’s what you need to know.Usyk vs. Joshua 2 fight card informationDate: Saturday, August 20Location: Jeddah Superdome in Saudi ArabiaTime: Card begins at 12:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. BSTMain event ringwalks: 5:30 p.m.
