The image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer onHurricane Fiona came ashore in southwestern Puerto Rico in the late afternoon. Though the storm only reachedintensity—with sustained winds of around 85 miles per hour—it moved slowly and had more time to cause damage. The hurricane dropped a whopping 1 to 2 feet of rain in numerous locations.
Nanmadol made landfall near Kagoshima late on September 18 as a category-2 storm with 175-kilometer per hour sustained winds. Widespread rainfall totals reached 12 to 19 inches , and several rivers and streams overflowed.
