Schafer wore a barely-there makeup that let her freckles and complexion take center stage. But look closer at photos from last night, and you'll notice she's holding her hand up in every one, all the better to show off her bedazzled middle finger.took to Instagram to share her inspiration for the extra bling, which comes from Schafer's structural Rick Owens ensemble, Shiseido makeup, and Ganzer's own recent trip to Japan.
As for the diamond-encrusted finger, it's inspired by "the magic of the Tokyo lights at night." Ganzer "hand glued Swarovski ab crystals to her finger, and dotted the inner corners of her eyes with a couple for sparkle." After 77 years of the Golden Globes, it can feel rare to see true innovation on the red carpet, and we're grateful to these two for throwing a literal middle finger to Hollywood beauty traditions. In fact, my own personal beauty philosophy for this year is encapsulated in Schafer's gorgeous portrait: let skin breathe, break rules, have fun, and wear glitter. May we see more of it all in 2020.
