X-Men movie writer David Hayter reveals why Hugh Jackman's Wolverine casting became complicated. The Australian actor has been synonymous with the role having brilliantly played the mutant for 17 years until he ended his arc in James Mangold's Logan. But it's no secret that he wasn't Fox's initial choice for the job, and now Hayter shares what really went down with Jackman's casting.
"The first time Hugh Jackman read, he didn't get cast. He was great, but he was the nicest guy in the world and he was very tall and super handsome, so we didn't think he was Wolverine... The idea of Scott playing Wolverine originally seems absurd now. Despite the spotty track record of Fox's X-Men franchise, one thing that fans could always count on was the actor's performance. He had been open about the mental, and especially the physical preparation he had to endure just to make sure that he was in tip-top shape when portraying the role.
