Huge Preston church fire as road closed and smoke seen for miles around LIVE UPDATES:
A huge fire has broken out at a church in Preston. The blaze reportedly involves St David's Church on Eldon Street. The road has been closed in both directions between Inkerman Street to Lulworth Avenue.
Smoke can be seen for miles, as many people have taken to social media to raise alarm over the smoke and huge flames. Fire engines from Preston, Leyland, Bamber Bridge, Fulwood, Penwortham, Blackburn, the Stinger from Blackburn and two aerial ladder platforms from Preston and Blackpool are in attendance. The drone team are also on scene.
Members of the public are urged to avoid the area and nearby residents should keep their windows and doors closed if they can smell smoke. Traffic is coping well with the closure. A spokesperson for traffic monitoring website, INRIX, said: "Eldon Street in both directions closed due to building fire from Inkerman Street to Lulworth Avenue. Traffic is coping well."
