Howard Webb has spoken publicly for the first time about the shambolic VAR decision to disallow Luis Diaz's onside goal in Liverpool's 2-1 Premier League defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.
The game was 0-0 when Luis Diaz fired the ball into the net. The goal was disallowed by the on-field officials, however, and their mistake was compounded when the VAR team at Stockley Park failed to intervene. And now Webb has had his say on Match Officials: Mic'd Up. After the audience heard the audio, Webb said: “We took the unusual step of releasing the audio from this situation not long after it happened. We wanted to show everybody what was very quickly apparent to us that it was a significant human error and loss of concentration. We're all disappointed the VAR system didn't step in to rectify the clear error we'd seen on the field with the disallowing of the goal.
