It’s important to note that Governor Abbot has not passed any new laws and did not change the law with these opinions. I believe that both the attorney general and the governor are intentionally obfuscating their power in order to convince the public that they have the power to change the law unilaterally, which is not the case. The Texas family code currently says that causing physical, mental, or emotional harm to your kid could be considered child abuse.
