But it raises an interesting question. How will the success of the game be measured using non-traditional metrics, where usually we’d see big “$800 million opening weekend” type headlines for huge releases. Games in the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series have sold tens of millions of lifetime copies, but because of Game Pass, it will not hit those high water marks. Though Microsoft probably won’t mind.
The way I see it, there are a few different paths that will add up to significant revenue, albeit we won’t get one of those “big opening day/weekend/week” numbers the way we’re used to. And of course, this is missing PlayStation entirely, a first for a mainline Bethesda RPG release. But, the measurements:– This is what Microsoft wants to see more than absolutely anything else.
