Costume Designer Colleen Atwood explains how WednesdayAddams and Enid's relationship came to life through their costumes. 'We sort of did [Wednesday and Enid] in tandem.'
Wednesday costume designer Colleen Atwood shares how Wednesday and Enid’s relationship came together in their costumes. Atwood’s costumes have been praised for creating an aesthetic unique to the show but in keeping with The Addams Family franchise style. A frequent collaborator with executive producer Tim Burton, Atwood is no stranger to the supernatural comedy-horror genre that characterizes Wednesday.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent conversation with People Magazine, Atwood gave some insight into how the relationship between Wednesday and Enid was solidified by their costumes. She reveals that their wardrobes were created “in tandem” and purposefully contrasted, with everything from hair, makeup, and fabric texture decided with the two characters side by side.
We sort of did [Wednesday and Enid] in tandem. We started with Jenna, and she came in, and we played with her hair. We did the little freckles and things that were added to make Wednesday more today, and then Enid came in. We knew we wanted to mess with her hair. Paul Hanlon brought all these wigs that had different colors in them, and we played around with colors.
Wednesday and Enid's Future In Season 2 Explained There’s no doubt that Wednesday and Enid’s relationship will be central as the show continues, as another opportunity to display Ortega and Myer’s onscreen chemistry. As Wednesday proceeds in her journey as a complicated but compelling anti-hero, Enid will be there to balance her out and rub off on her, just as she did in season 1.
Atwood already has costume ideas for the show’s sophomore season and is excited to explore Wednesday and Enid’s bond and “ongoing dichotomy.” In addition to more iconic fashion choices, viewers have a lot to look forward to in the expansion of the Addams Family universe. Netflix has yet to confirm a new season, but with the spin-off’s critical acclaim and record-breaking ratings, it’s merely a question of when and not if.
