How tonight's James Beard Awards could play out for Houston chefs and restaurants
Here’s who could score on the highly competitive national level: Chris Williams, chef/owner of Lucille’s restaurant, nominated for Outstanding Restaurateur; Hugo’s restaurant, from Tracy Vaught and Hugo Ortega of the H-Town Restaurant Group, nominated for Outstanding Hospitality; Ruben Ortega, nominated for Outstanding Pastry Chef for his work at Xochi;
, from bartender Alba Huerta, nominated for Outstanding Bar Program. On a regional level, Best Chef Texas has three nominations: Pitmaster Quy Hoang of Blood Bros. BBQ, and the team of Christine Ha and Tony J. Nguyen of Xin Chao.Best Chef Texas is a new category for the regional best chef awards. It will be presented for the first time this year with Texas as its own standalone geographical category.
