, one of New York’s longest-running drag cabarets. Josephine Jason, the owner of Lucky Chengs, inherited the space from her mother at just 20 years old. Now 25, Josephine toldthat in honor of the event, she wanted to give a bit of irony to the traditional prom look — so she wore her nude strapless prom dress from seven years ago, gelled her hair back and clipped it, and got her makeup done at the MAC store in Times Square.
For the event, guests were encouraged to wear whatever felt right to them, with the knowledge that Anti-Prom is a safe place where they can experiment with their looks. “I was excited for prom to make me move my body in something I wasn’t totally ready for,” said Isaac, a Brujas collaborator. Isaac wore a long white dress with Vans picked up from the Times Square Zumiez hours prior, explaining that she “didn’t know how to dance in a dress.
