Ms Braverman suggested a mandatory reporting duty could have protected “countless children would have been better protected against grooming gangs and against sexual abusers more widely” plans to make it mandatory for teachers to report concerns that children are being subjected to sexual abuse.

“I know the overwhelming majority of them, along with the public, consider it a duty on themselves and their colleagues to report any indication of the sexual abuse of a child.face the full force of the law.”A lot is still unclear about how such a mandatory reporting scheme would function, or what the consequences would be for those who fail to spot issues for children in their care.
“However, with any mandatory reporting law, the devil is in the detail and it is imperative that the law is effective, not just a gesture.
