Here's how SBE founder Sam Nazarian is supporting his 7,000 laid-off hospitality workers:

Forbesbefore coronavirus struck the U.S., thad just completed construction of nine hotel or residential properties in cities like Dubai and South Korea. But having to abruptly layoff a majority of its hospitality workers to keep the company afloat in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis has made sbe feel smaller than ever.

Laid-off employees will continue to receive extended benefits coverage and a portion of pay from sbe. All executives including Nazarian have taken a pay cut. In addition to a $50 gas or grocery gift card, the care packages contain food brands and “What we’re doing is reintroducing hope, passion and empathy but not just in what we’re giving,” he says, “but the fact that it’s coming from people they work with. We hope it brings a little light into their daily routine.”The care-package drive kicked off last week in California, where sbe has its largest workforce of roughly 3,000. Nazarian’s crowdfunding campaign has so far raised more than $110,000.
