Despite the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Israel now looks poised to launch a full-scale offensive into the northern half of the region.According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Israel spent $23.4bn on its military in 2022. However, Hamas has long been ready for an Israeli incursion, digging a sophisticated network of tunnels across Gaza intended to allow its forces to survive aerial bombardment.The Gaza strip is also one of the world’s most densely populated areas, meaning each building will have to be fought over.Ahead of the offensive, the Israeli government has ordered the 1.1 million civilians in the north of Gaza to move south.
