Marvel's first martial arts-driven film, 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,' features references to the work of Jackie Chan, including his scaffolding acrobatics in the 'Rush Hour' franchise
A bus careens through San Francisco in one of the first blowout scenes in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” Inside, the title character fights off a pack of goons as his friend tries to control the vehicle.
The team blended different fighting styles to give Shang-Chi a unique signature. “He’s not hardcore like a Jet Li hero or an assassin like John Wick. If you don’t go too serious, then you really easily get into Jackie Chan,” Mr. Cheng said.As “Black Panther” did for Black superhero representation, “Shang-Chi” brings Asian talent and culture to a genre that dominates the global movie business.
The emphasis on Eastern martial arts marks a first in Marvel movies. Helping oversee the fight sequences and the talent behind them with Mr. Cretton was Brad Allan, the supervising stunt coordinator and second unit director.
