What do you do when something as hard to avoid as stress is a trigger for your chronic condition? One woman shares what she's learned:

When I first had symptoms of psoriasis 15 years ago, I knew right away what the plaques were. My 7-year-old son was already dealing with this chronic disease, so getting in to see a dermatologist and receiving a true diagnosis was easy for me. What wasn’t easy was learning how to control my flares.

It seemed every flare could be traced back to some crazy stressful event in my life. So the solution was simple: Avoid stress altogether to get my flares under control. I’m still looking for the magic dust to keep me stress-free, but I have learned a few tricks along the way that definitely help manage life’s demanding moments.My go-to exercise is kickboxing. I’m no expert, and I don’t pretend to be able to take on Chuck Norris, but I do enjoy hitting and kicking the heavy bags when I have some pent-up anger or frustration. This is a good way for me to relieve stress and get in a good workout, both of which can help control my psoriasis symptoms.

Yoga has also been great for me. It forces me to control my breathing and bring my focus back on myself for 60 minutes. To say I’m a work in progress is an understatement, but I try, and my body thanks me for that.Every morning like clockwork, my cat wakes me up. We have this routine where she snuggles up to my face, and then I put her on my chest and give her lots of love. She’s like my own vibrating weighted blanket, and she starts my day on a good, stress-free note.
