Saara, now 31, says for much of her life she felt like an outsider. Growing up with teacher parents who preferred to play English pop music to the Finnish songs played on the radio, she developed a love of performing and set about writing and producing backing tracks on her computer. Inspired by the flamboyance of the Spice Girls’ infamous Brits performance ofHowever, little did she know that the reactions around her would be hostile and wholly negative.
But strong-willed Saara didn’t let the attitude of her peers dent her ambition and she continued to strive for success, but she still sadly found herself coming up against people who didn’t appear to understand her.When she was 17, a record label came to her village seeking fresh talent for their roster. While they recognised Saara’s immense talent they were adamant that if she insisted on singing in English she wouldn’t be successful.
