UK news: How cutting-edge technology helped bring down a paedophile ring
Cutting-edge technology and a specialist sniffer dog that seeks out electronic devices helped bring down a paedophile ring.
The chat meant Stanley was in breach of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order, prohibiting him from associating with other registered sex offenders, the Liverpool Echo reports. The device was found to contain Category A images, defined in law as depicting the most severe forms of child abuse including rape, as well as Category B and C images. Other devices recovered from his home contained further indecent images.
Stanley had already been sentenced on June 1 this year to 32 months in prison, for breach of a sexual harm prevention order, distributing indecent photographs of children, making indecent photographs of children and possessing an indecent photograph of a child. "This software enables police offender managers, who work with sex offenders, to ensure they are complying with sexual harm prevention orders. When instances of further offending are discovered, they are dealt with robustly, as this case shows.”
