Michael Porter Jr. is on the verge of making his long-awaited debut for the Denver Nuggets. But with expectations high for the former number one high school prospect, what should be realistic expectations for his rookie season?

Porter will likely also find himself in what essentially could become a three-way battle for the 10th spot in the regular rotation between himself, defensive stalwart Torrey Craig, and Spanish forward Juancho Hernangomez who has had his struggles with the Nuggets, but is enjoying a revival of solid play in the FIBA World Cup which just might spark a strong training camp outing.
Porter relishes leaping above the rim, and imagining how he will play alongside Nikola Jokic, one of the NBA’s best playmakers, it’s easy to envision him flushing down a healthy diet of lob passes on cuts to the basket.
Porter’s playmaking skills are fairly questionable. He has shown the capacity for making some good passes, but also the propensity not to make them in the first place in favor of shooting his own shot.
On the encouraging side of Porter’s defense, crashing the glass might be his best skill. He seems to have a natural instinct for rebounding, and in true Nuggets fashion a knack for turning defense into offense. When Porter pulls down boards, he often initiates the grab-and-go, using the aforementioned ball handling skills along with his speed and hops to run the length of the court and finish strong.
