Researchers are predicting a moderate harmful algal bloom for western Lake Erie this year, unless the amount of rain from May to July is close to or below average.

Information provided by the National Weather Service – Ohio River Forecast Center and the Heidelberg University National Center for Water Quality Research was used in calculating the projected severity of the bloom. The forecast will be updated weekly and “a comprehensive seasonal forecast” will be issued on June 29.
