According to an arrest-warrant affidavit, Beam was at the Pridgeon Stadium drive-through COVID-19 testing site on Monday when she informed the school district’s director of health services, Bevin Gordon, that her son was in the trunk of her car.
Beam told Gordon her son had tested positive for the virus and she wanted to avoid getting exposed while driving him to the site for additional testing, the affidavit says. When Gordon asked to see the boy, Beam unlatched the trunk and he was found lying down inside, the affidavit says. Gordon told Beam she would not test the boy until Beam removed him from the trunk and then called police.
Surveillance footage from a nearby middle school showed the boy get out of the trunk and into the backseat of the car, according to the affidavit.that their investigation into the incident led them to obtain a warrant to arrest Beam.Officials with the school district said Beam is on administrative leave from her job as an English teacher at Cypress Falls High School, where she has worked since 2011, KPRC reported.
