He will be leading the performance of Verdi's Requiem, 'an opera in disguise,' at Jones Hall.

Premiered in 1874, the Requiem began several years earlier when Verdi and a dozen of his peers collaborated on a piece to honor the passing of their forefather Gioachino Rossini. That effort collapsed before the premiere , but Verdi’s final section, “Libera me,” became the seeds of his own Requiem.
After graduating from Sam Houston State University, Hightower received master’s degrees at Eastman and Baylor and his doctorate at UCLA, where he interned at the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Its legendary director, Paul Salamunovich, imprinted a certain type of sound on him: “a sound of great depth and great warmth and tremendous emotional quality, in terms of communicating the meaning deeply,” he says.
