Mayor Turner will serve as Grand Marshal of the H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade in his last year in office. Two Houston Rockets legends will be co-grand marshals.
HOUSTON — The City of Houston is getting ready for aPlanning is underway for the 74th Annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade. The City of Houston was joined on Thursday by co-sponsors including Citgo, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, the Highland Village Shopping Center for announcements.Hall of Famers, including coach Rudy Tomjanovich and Calvin Murphy will be the co-grand marshals leading the parade. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner will be the grand marshal in his final year as mayor.
“You’re always surprised, delighted with what you see, the performances are incredible,” said Susan Christian, the city’s parade producer and director of the mayor’s office of special events. She said the parade is adding five new floats this year with 18 balloons and seven marching bands, with Texas Southern University’s Ocean of Soul as the lead band—plus six high school bands. Four of the bands have never performed in the parade before.“Number one: they surprised me with the grand marshal announcement but this is the 74th H-E-B Thanksgiving Day parade," Turner said."I think it’s going to be the best ever, and it is about being very thankful.
