Rep. Jim Jordan failed again Friday on a third ballot for the House speaker's gavel, as a majority of Republicans still didn't offer him their support.
Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, House Judiciary chairman and staunch ally of Donald Trump, meets with reporters about his struggle to become speaker of the House, at the Capitol in Washington, Friday, Oct. 20, 2023. Democrats nominated House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, with votes coming for both Jordan and Jeffries.
Ahead of the vote, McCarthy spoke to nominate Jordan. He described Jordan as straightforward, honest and reliable and portrayed him as a skilled legislator who reaches for compromise. That drew laughter from the Democratic side of the aisle. He has passed more legislation through the House in the last 3 years than the entire Democrat leadership team with their collective 28 years in Congress," McCarthy added.
