His football dream ended at 16
From the foxes to dragons - the star of the new Game of Thrones prequel series used to be a promising footballer with the Leicester City youth team. Matt Smith, from Northampton, who is also a former Doctor Who and played Prince Philip in The Crown, has enjoyed a great acting career.
Sadly, the dream ended when he was just 16 as his chances of making the cut were ultimately scuppered by a back condition known as spondylosis. This led to him being released by Leicester City at which point his acting venture truly began, Leicestershire Live reports.Football had run in Matt's family after his grandfather played for Notts County.
But while unusual for a teenager, the condition is not uncommon. By age 60, most people will show signs of the condition on x-ray. "It was very difficult for me to tell people that I had been released because the vain part of me was like, I am that and I am the footballer, you know, and at school I was the footballer and suddenly I wasn’t that.
