A weather warning for 'disrupting' thunderstorms and possible flooding remained in force in Greater Manchester today - as the UK recorded its hottest day of the year so far.
But on Sunday, forecasters warned again of a risk of storms and heavy rainfall. A yellow-coded Met Office warning is due to come into force at 2pm today - Sunday - and remains in place until midnight. But the forecast shows a chance of rain from 10am on Sunday in many Greater Manchester boroughs.The UK has now sweltered through six days of temperatures above 30C in September for the first time. Previously the highest temperature of the year had been set on Thursday, with 32.
Environment Agency flood duty manager Chris Wilding warned motorists against driving through floodwaters in the case of flash flooding. "We urge people not to drive through floodwater – it is often deeper than it looks and just 30cm of flowing water is enough to float your car."It says: "Thunderstorms may bring disruption during Sunday afternoon and evening.
