Doctor at Morecambe Bay hospitals concealed information after being dismissed from training process
. Doctors in speciality training are reviewed once a year by the Annual Review of Competency Progression panel to ensure that they are progressing satisfactorily through their training programme.However, it was at this stage in 2016 that she was dismissed from the training process. However, during the appeal process, she dishonestly concealed information that was relevant.
Dr Brown is currently employed as a locum consultant in anaesthesia University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. The tribunal report explains: "On 15 September 2016, when asked by the Appeal Panel why the report from Dr A dated August 29, 2016. had been redacted in parts, you stated that there were personal details within the report which were not relevant to the appeal hearing, or words to that effect, which was untrue.
"Dr Brown’s position was that the Appeal Panel did not specifically ask her about Dr A’s document dated August 29, 2016. She told the Tribunal that a panel member had flicked through a large bundle of documents and she had been asked about redactions in general terms. She stated that she was not taken to any particular document, and was adamant that she made no comment as to the relevance of the information she had redacted.
"However, it considered that as there was a significant departure from GMP, there was a public interest aspect to this case, such that there was a need to issue a warning and thereby send a message to the wider profession in order to uphold proper standards of conduct and behaviour and to maintain public confidence in the profession.
