Vienna German was diagnosed with a severe case of pyoderma gangrenosum last year and said she didn't want boyfriend Tom to 'watch me die'
A young woman begged her boyfriend to leave her rather than watch her skin 'eat itself' - leaving her with 'agonising, rotten sores' all over her armpits, breasts and bum. Vienna German, from Southampton, Hampshire, claims doctors originally thought she simply had an inflamed armpit hair follicle before she was diagnosed with the worst case of pyoderma gangrenosum her doctor had ever seen in January last year.
Vienna said: "Tom nursed me back to life. He washed me, he dressed me, he did everything for me. I genuinely don't think I'd be here to tell the tale had he not been there. At the time I said, 'You can't watch me die, please leave me.' Vienna said: "It felt like someone had set a fire under my armpit and then poured gasoline on the fire. No one would believe how bad the pain was because I had no official diagnosis. It was awful. I felt ignored. I came out of hospital in mid-November. I wasn't healing and were agony but I learnt to just keep my arms down by my side and not use them.
"Open, rotting flesh was falling off my body for months. It was black and it was dead. I couldn't move. I couldn't even walk to the toilet by myself. One time I even wet myself because I couldn't get there quick enough. "But he knew exactly how to treat it and he knew what was wrong with me immediately. After seeing so many people it was just a relief to meet him. I was put on an extremely high dose of steroids, which really did help me start to heal. But I was taking them for a very long time at 100mg when a normal dose is about 10mg.
