Hong Kong’s LSE bid conceals a shrewd Beijing view, says cbeddor:
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Chief Executive Charles Li told the Sibos conference on Sept. 24 that a tie-up with the London Stock Exchange Group could “unlock the last frontier” of Chinese wealth. “Now is the time to think big, when the world is polarizing to the east and west, it is time to become global,” said Li.
HKEX made a cash and shares offer for LSE on Sept. 11, valuing the UK company at almost 30 billion pounds. LSE rejected the offer on Sept. 13.
