Hong Kong’s leader Carrie Lam warns that 'stern law enforcement' will be used to end unrest

on Thursday aimed at reassuring overseas investors. “We remain a safe, open, welcoming and cosmopolitan society and an internationally connected, vibrant and dynamic economy. We will no doubt bounce back. We always do,”Protesters continue to demand direct elections, an independent investigation into alleged police brutality, pardons for the 1,100 people arrested during the 14 weeks campaign of demonstrations, and Lam’s resignation.

Back-to-school week in the city has been dominated by students boycotting classes in support of the demonstrations. Among those were students at the Chinese Foundation Secondary School, whichto business leaders that she would resign if she could and her apology for the “havoc” in the city.
