Kim said: 'I couldn’t believe how old it was'
Kim McFarlane and her partner Josh got the keys to their first investment property in Tollcross on Friday, September 16.
They started work in the bedroom of the home, which was built in 1910, when they came across pages from an edition of The Evening News dated August 24, 1921.The Evening News was founded as the Glasgow Evening Post in 1866 before becoming The Evening News in 1915.Kim, 33, explained:"We were lifting six layers of flooring in the bedroom [when we found the newspaper]."I was in a bit of shock to be honest.
"The house I’m in just now across the road from this, I renovated, and I found papers and stuff in that one but they were from the 60s so I just couldn’t believe it was that old.""It’s not like a paper you would get now where a story could be quite big, there are loads of wee small ones. "I’ve got the front page and it says ‘latest special’ on it, and then the other bit has Pettigrew & Stevens rummage sale, and then there are loads of stuff about racing, in the city notes there’s stuff about iron and steel, and there’s dog racing."to frame one of the pages which is in better condition as a memento from their first shared renovation project.
