Homeless are removed from under the Playground Pier in Atlantic City, August 1, 2022.About 30 people who struggle with homelessness were cleared out of an encampment early Monday beneath the Playground Pier, which is owned by Caesars, off the Atlantic City boardwalk.
“It’s just not safe conditions in there. They needed to be out soon. We did mention today was the final day they had to be in there,” Kramer said, adding that they worked with Caesars on the issue.three-day Phish concert on the beach“There really is no connection. This was found last week and the moment we found out we knew that everyone had to be out immediately. It just so happens that this is right before the beach concert,” Kramer said.
Caesars, Kramer said, is repairing fencing that was under the pier barring people from venturing under it. Kramer did not say how long the fencing had been damaged. Caesars did not immediately return a message seeking comment. However, another official from Volunteers of America Delaware Valley, which aided in the efforts on Monday, said that was not accurate.
Volunteers of America said all the people moved out were offered a variety of services, including housing, mental health, substance abuse treatment and some medical care.
