It was built as a wedding present in 1875 from a former SF mayor to his son.
The six-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom historic Victorian home at 1772 Vallejo in San Francisco is for sale. When former San Francisco Mayor Ephraim William Burr wanted to give his son a wedding gift, he went big. He chose one of the largest parcels of land available in the city and enlisted Edmund M. Wharf to design a grand Italianate Victorian on the still mostly rural land known as Cow Hollow.
Sitting on more than a quarter of an acre, the original lot was even larger but was split into two in 1971.Many of the home's original details have been impeccably preserved, most notably an original, redwood-paneled family/media/playroom. The home was spared in the 1906 earthquake and fire.
