The CHP said they received their first reports of the hole about 12:05 a.m.
OAKLAND — Travel on Interstate 880 turned into a challenge once again early Wednesday, after a giant pot hole opened up, the California Highway Patrol said.
The agency issued a Sig-Alert for severe traffic and said emergency repairs for the hole still were needed. The CHP said the hole would not be fixed until at least 1:30 p.m. The hole opened in the southbound direction of I-880 just south of the Fruitvale Avenue exit. The two far right lanes both were closed and surrounded by cones.
The CHP received their first reports about the hole about 12:05 a.m. They did not report any injuries as a result of it.The issue is the second in four days on the freeway. On Sunday, flooding near the Thornton Avenue exit in Fremont caused the CHP to close the freeway in both directions.
