The Santa Clara County Fire Department arrived at the scene at approximately 10:01 a.m. after receiving reports of the injured woman.

“After being extricated, medical aid was rendered but sadly the patient was declared deceased,” the fire department tweeted on Sunday. Deputies with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and representatives of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District were also on site at the time of the incident. Bystanders reportedly attempted to remove the woman from underneath the tree before fire crews arrived, the fire department, adding that workers with the Open Space District helped the fire crew reach the area where the hiker was injured.

SFGATE reached out to all three agencies for additional information but did not hear back by time of publication.
