A wildfire broke out in the parched grassy hills of inland Contra Costa County on Monday afternoon, officials said.
A wildfire broke out in the parched grassy rolling hills of inland Contra Costa County on Monday afternoon amid baking heat and dry weather, officials said.the Highland Fire started at Highland Road near Camino Tassajara Road and Collier Canyon Road in the unincorporated area of Tassajara at 2:52 p.m.
The fire protection district couldn't confirm acreage at 3:30 p.m. but multiple reports on the scanner indicated that the blaze was 30 to 40 acres.The California Highway Patrol is expected to shut down roads in the area. The Contra Costa Fire Protection District told SFGATE just after 3 p.m. that it sent a hand crew of 14 people to help fight the blaze.
