Everything you need to know about Memorial Park's Biggest Picnic in Texas
From 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, Memorial Park will host what organizers are calling “The Biggest Picnic in Texas,” and organizers are inviting all of Houston to come enjoy the city’s park.The free celebration introduces the public to the new Kinder Land Bridge, which provides a safe pedestrian passage over Memorial Drive, connecting the north and south sides of Memorial Park. Wildlife will use it, too.
Guests can bring their picnics and blankets or make use of shaded picnic tables. In addition to food trucks offering food for purchase on site, H-E-B is providing 1,000 free picnics — until they’re gone. The festivities include live music, face painting and the chance to partake in The Great Prairie Adventure.
At one station, kids will spot footprints of wildlife that use the prairie as a habitat, including coyotes, armadillos, turtles, skunks and snakes. They’ll learn how each is vital to the ecosystem.
