50 Democratic House and Senate candidates received money from Sam Bankman-Fried, while 8 Republican Senate candidates benefitted from his donations. Out of these 58 candidates, a total of 25 of their campaigns have pledged to donate or return the funds.

In December, FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was charged by federal prosecutors in Manhattan with violating campaign finance laws, which was among eight counts of conspiracy and fraud. Even before the indictment was announced, politicians who received money from the ex-cryptocurrency executive began donating the contributions to nonprofits and aid organizations.

MarketWatch collected and analyzed data from the Federal Election Commission to create an interactive table to search through itemized donations from Bankman-Fried. Now we’ve added a column to note which campaigns are pledging to donate or return their contributions and where, if indicated. Based on MarketWatch’s analysis, 50 Democratic House and Senate candidates received money from Bankman-Fried, while only eight Republican Senate candidates benefitted from his donations. In an interview with Dealbook, the ex-CEO said his donations were made to candidates who were vocal about pandemic prevention measures.

Out of these 58 candidates, MarketWatch has so far found that a total of 25 of their campaigns have pledged to donate or return the funds. There are five Republican and 20 Democratic campaigns that have made such commitments. The findings are based on MarketWatch’s reporting and analysis, and reporting from AP and Popular Information.
