Deval Patrick enters race for Democratic nomination, pushing field back to 18
The crowded 2020 Democratic field is up to 18 contenders thanks to former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick entering the fray on Thursday, and billionaire Michael Bloomberg could expand the field to 19.
Meanwhile, advisers to Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City, have signaled that he hasn’t made a final decision on whether to enter the Democratic presidential primary, but he’s taking steps toward a campaign, such as filing to be on primary ballots in Alabama and Arkansas. In a RealClearPolitics moving average of national polls on Thursday, Biden scored 26% support vs. Warren’s 20.8%. Sanders drew 17.8%, topping Buttigieg at 8%, Harris at 5.3%, entrepreneur Andrew Yang at 2.8%, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey at 2.3% each. All other Democratic candidates are below 2%.
