The state health department reports that 3,641 Ohio residents are known to have died in December 2021, behind only the 5,537 in December 2020 and 3,707 in January 2021 when vaccines were first becoming available. January 2022 reports 3,422 known deaths so far. The 210 deaths reported so far for Dec. 17, 2020, are the most for any single day, just ahead of two other days during the same week, both of which also had over 200 deaths.
