DearPrudie: It’s something she’s decided she needs to move forward, but I have a hard time seeing what it will accomplish other than humiliating Jim. Help!
A few months ago, I started casually dating “Tod.” We had met each other a few times before through his best friend. Tod moved away from my town a couple years ago, but still comes back for work. We both had bad breakups last year and decided a casual monogamous relationship would be best for right now. In the back of my mind, I had a feeling Tod was wavering about the casual part. He’s a serial monogamous person and I am not.
It’s now very clear that he has strong feelings for me. I just don’t want anything more with him. He’s fun and a good guy, but he’s just not the kind of person I would have a real relationship with. He thinks we’re great together, I don’t. He’s not very intellectually stimulating and he’s far more romantic than I am. I want to make it clear that this relationship will only ever be casual, but I don’t want to hurt his feelings.
