Despite the dog days of summer coming to a close, heatwaves continue to surge across the country. In Cleveland, the heat index is expected to reach up to 96 today, according to data from the National Weather Service Cleveland.
On Monday, while the heat index may not reach its original prediction of 100, it’s still expected to reach 96, which is still relatively high but, surprisingly--even with everything going on in regards to climate change --somewhat typical for this time of year, said Raelene Campbell, a meteorologist for National Weather Service Cleveland.
Campbell noted that the same high-pressure system has also driven the temperatures east of the Rockies.A cold front will be moving through the area, causing the showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Campbell said the cloud cover will hopefully help things stay cool today, even with the high humidity.
NWS data indicates that showers will likely decrease through Tuesday morning, along with the temperatures throughout the remainder of the week, offering many the break from the heat they need.“That’ll kind of be the story through Friday, and possibly, through Saturday and Sunday,” Campbell said.
