'We'll be done by Christmas if things don't change': Heartbreak for micropub crippled by energy prices and falling footfall

They say the industry is facing "grave uncertainty" - warning as many as seven in every ten British boozers could not make it to 2023. Increasing energy bills have directly affected a fall in sales and footfall, while what money there is to spend on kegs, cans and CO2 gas does stretch far in a market experiencing severe shortages.
A survey conducted by the Morning Advertiser says that over 65 per cent of pubs said they had seen their utility bills rise by 100 per cent, with 30 per cent saying the jump had been twice as high. Mark said he dreads to think what bigger venues than his are doing about their energy bills. He said: "Before all this, we were doing really well, so I don't know how some of the other quieter pubs are coping.
