From challenges to championships 🏅: Lincolnshire shines at Invictus Games!
Six brave men and women from Lincolnshire will compete at the 2023 Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany, from September 9 to 16, 2023.
Grantham’s Martha Prinsloo, 37, suffered life-changing injuries while serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps in Afghanistan. An MRI revealed a neurological disorder from the blast, causing progressive nerve damage, predominantly affecting the left side of her body. Although she regained vision in her right eye, her left remains permanently blind.
“Through the Battle Back Centre and the RBL, I regained confidence to step out of my comfort zone and put myself out there to do adaptive sports. His diverse skill set further led him to roles as Non-Commissioned Aircrew, where he briefly rendered his services for the Nimrod MR2 and Sentinel aircraft.
Undeterred, Mike embarked on his path to recovery amidst the constraints of the coronavirus pandemic. Using virtual platforms, he embraced martial arts alongside one of his young sons, using the discipline to regain his balance and enhance his fitness. His dedication bore fruit as he clinched medals in martial arts tournaments, a testament to his resilience.

He said: “Ten years on from sustaining my injuries in Afghanistan, I still find daily challenges a struggle, especially when it comes to my mental health – I find my emotional attachment and empathy levels have significantly decreased. However, during the twilight of his career, David faced a diagnosis of osteochondritis dissecans and osteoarthritis. These health challenges ultimately led to his medical discharge.
