The album was recorded in what used to be West Berlin, and it’s considered the second part of Bowie’s Berlin Trilogy, a series of art rock albums he recorded after living in Germany in 1976.was the only album from the trilogy that was actually recorded in its namesake city, and its famous title track follows two lovers who are separated by the Berlin Wall and symbolizes perseverance in the face of adversity.
To celebrate this album’s release, we’re sharing audio of Bowie performing “Heroes” in Montreal in 1983. On this tour, Bowie reunited with guitarist Earl Slick, who had replaced Mick Ronson for therecording sessions. The lineup also featured former Chic and Power Station drummer Tony Thompson and members of the Tower of Power horn section, making this one of the best backing bands of Bowie’s long career.
