Mr Barclay has announced that he as applied to the courts to declare the forthcoming strikes on 30 April and 2 May as unlawful

Responding to the Government’s decision to make the industrial action illegal, RCN General Secretary and Chief Executive Pat Cullen said the decision was “nakedly political”.

“Nurses will not be gagged in this way by a bullying government,” Ms Cullen said. “We are clear that court arguments should only relate to 2nd May and not the 30th April and 1st May. “The government is now desperate to silence nurses rather than address this properly. We want to be in the negotiating room, not the courtroom.”and lump sum, despite RCN bosses encouraging them to accept the offer, which was far lower than the initial demand of 19 per cent.Adam Brimelow, director of communications for NHS Providers, said: “It is positive, though, that a large proportion of Unison’s members voted to accept the pay deal.

“Members of other unions are still voting on the Government’s pay offer. The offer was not just for nurses, but all NHS staff . The result of their votes will also be important.”
