Negan will be taking a few steps backward and reverting to his old personality in The Walking Dead: Dead City, according to Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Negan came a long way in The Walking Dead, but The Walking Dead: Dead City is going to see him fall right back to square one. After the ending of The Walking Dead saw the core band split up and go their separate ways, Negan has been spending some time falling back to his old habits.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT In an interview with SFX Magazine, Jeffrey Dean Morgan explained just how far his character has fallen since the ending of The Walking Dead. The Negan actor teased that the former antagonist is reverting to his old ways that first pit him against Rick and his family, much of which stems from a general frustration in the ongoing animosity between him and Maggie.
He came a long way in the original show. But I think there's a problem that occurs when we find him in Dead City, and that is, he's not been part of the group now for a couple of years. A lot of bad s--t has happened to him, and he's reverted a little bit because he's a survivor. More than anything else, he's a survivor. Maggie shows up at his doorstep; you can tell that he's gone backwards a little bit, just in the way he acts and the way he talks to her.
Why The Walking Dead: Dead City Will Change Negan The Walking Dead: Dead City will begin years after the group from The Walking Dead parted ways. Away from their positive influence, Negan has had nothing more to do but survive — and that is always the first step in corrupting a redeemed villain. By the time Maggie finds him, Negan is well on his way to becoming an antagonist once more. It doesn't help that she will be forcing him to look into his history as she works to find her son.
After so long apart, it will be interesting to see why Negan helps Maggie in The Walking Dead: Dead City. Morgan has already indicated that Maggie will attempt to blackmail the fugitive, which is hardly a great place for their relationship to start. A walk into New York City is already practically a death sentence in the world of The Walking Dead, so it's no wonder Negan needs that extra push, but considering that he can just kill Maggie, there will likely be more to it than just that.
