A Harvey, Illinois, man is accused of hitting and choking a Merrillville woman for the second time in the last three months.
Ezra J. Hill, 36, is charged with domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old; strangulation, a Level 6 felony; and misdemeanor domestic battery.On Aug. 9 around 9:44 a.m., Merrillville Police were dispatched to the 4000 block of W. 79th Court for a report of a domestic disturbance, according to the probable cause affidavit.
A woman told police that she and Hill got into a verbal argument and things escalated quickly because Hill has trouble controlling his temper. When she told Hill that she was going to call 911, he took her phone, court records state. When she tried to find her car keys to leave, he shoved her into a wall. She hit her head and then Hill placed his hand on her neck with significant pressure, causing her to become dizzy and not be able to breathe, records state.
